Hi there!

I'm a born-and-bred New Yorker and experienced producer with a passion for creative storytelling in non-fiction films, podcasts, series, and more. I'm drawn to stories that surprise me, from the historical to the happening-now, the serious to the silly.

2020

I was most recently producing with Vox Media on their new daily news explainer series for Quibi, Answered.

This year I have also worked part-time story editing for the Vox Podcast Network during their relaunch of the show Good One.

2019

Last year I worked with Vox Media producing the Emmy-Nominated debut of their YouTube Originals series, Glad You Asked: an ensemble-led exploration of topics driven by our curiosity about the world around us.

2018-2019

Before Vox, I spent a year at Great Big Story working as the Creative Partnerships Associate. I conceptualized story and series ideas in response to RFPs and sales requests for potential clients. I researched and pitched for the content development team, all while maintaining Great Big Story's distinctive voice.

In 2018 I also worked part-time as the Community Coordinator for The Video Consortium, a creative nonprofit of over one thousand leading video journalists and nonfiction filmmakers, where I managed, updated, and streamlined the membership and admissions systems.

2017-2018

Before this, I worked for a year as production assistantand researcher for the NBC News Digital teams. I assisted with filming on studio and film shoots, and produced my own videos for NBCNews.com, and conducted story research for our team of award-winning producers. I also designed and implemented new archival and production workflows.

2017

In the spring of 2017, I also worked in development at Jigsaw, the production company for award-winning director Alex Gibney. I assisted in production and research for an upcoming documentary series by the The Documentary Group.

2016

Before working in documentaries, I worked in theatrical production and event planning. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University with a degree in History, and a minor in Linguistics. I specialized in European History, and wrote my thesis on piracy in the Mediterranean.

Emily is Vox Optima’s director of business development. After starting her career as a sportswriter in a small town in South Carolina known for it’s “giant peach by the highway,” Emily returned home to her Washington, DC, roots to write advertising copy for a nationwide department store chain (really, she was in it for the handbag and shoe discount) and stumbled into government contracting when offered a position as the editor of the US Navy’s Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) program magazine “On Cushion.” After a few years shooting LCAC photos and writing stories about the adventures of sailors and their ships, Emily moved into her current role supporting capture and business strategy, proposal development and marketing solutions.

Emily is a graduate of Elon University’s School of Communications. When not running (walking, really, it’s all about the shoes) around the Navy Yard supporting Vox Optima’s BD efforts, Emily spends her time baking elaborate cakes, photographing her friends and family, and keeping her local craft store in business.
